Old City and the centre, on foot
Icherisheher inside the walls, the Maiden Tower, the Palace of the Shirvanshahs, the caravanserai courtyards, then Fountain Square and the Boulevard along the Caspian. The version most people do on their first evening in Baku.

Gobustan rock art and the mud volcanoes
Petroglyphs carved into the rocks thousands of years ago, the museum next to them, and the field of small mud volcanoes further out. About an hour from Baku each way.

Ateshgah fire temple and Yanardag
The fire temple on the Absheron peninsula and the hillside that has been burning by itself for centuries. Best in the late afternoon, when the flame reads properly against the sky.

Baku at night
The viewpoint above the city, the Flame Towers lit up, the Boulevard after dark, and dinner or a bar wherever you want to end up. This one usually turns into the club evening.

Guba and the Candy Cane Mountains
North towards the Caucasus: the striped red and white hills, the canyon, orchards and mountain villages. A long day, and the one people send the most photographs from.

Shamakhi and Gabala
The Juma mosque in Shamakhi, the Diri Baba mausoleum in the cliff, then green country, waterfalls and the cable car in Gabala. Cooler than the city in summer.
